ERS and Envisat orbit determination and prediction at ESOC
نویسنده
چکیده
At the Flight Dynamics Division of the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC), routine operational orbit determination, prediction and control for ERS-1 and ERS-2 have been running consistently for many years now. The orbits produced on a daily basis are used for planning of ground track and inclination maintenance manoeuvres, for satellite operations (command parameters for the satellite’s Attitude and Orbit Control System / AOCS and for antenna pointing) and as input to the Fast Delivery (FD) product generation. In parallel, highprecision orbit determination (POD) has been performed off-line, partly for purposes of evaluation and improvement of the routine orbit determination, but also in support of the altimeter range calibration of ERS-2. This has been described extensively in earlier publications ([1], [2]).

Envisat Precise Orbit Determination
The Navigation Office at ESOC has been closely involved in all aspects of the Precise Orbit Determination (POD) of Envisat throughout the mission lifetime. These activities started shortly after launch through membership of the Orbit Validation Team (OVT). During this time ESOC was involved in both calibration and validation of the DORIS doppler data, the SLR data and the different POD solution...
متن کاملThermosphere Density Calibration in the Orbit Determination of Ers-2 and Envisat
The limited accuracy of empirical thermospheric density models is a major contributor to force model errors in orbit determination and orbit prediction for satellites such as ERS and Envisat. Although orbit accuracy has steadily improved due to advances in gravity field modeling and tracking systems, strong evidence of errors in density models have remained apparent in the orbit determination r...
متن کاملImproved Ers and Envisat Precise Orbit Determination
For over a decade, the Delft precise ERS-1 and ERS-2 orbits have been used in many scientific investigations based on ERS altimeter and interferometric SAR data. This orbit computation is now continued for Envisat, with an unprecedented accuracy due to better tracking data and lower force model errors. Orbit errors due to inaccuracies in the Earth’s gravity model, which have been the main focus...
متن کاملCalibration of Interferometric Envisat/asar Image Mode Products
Interferometric data processing requires careful calibration and validation of the complex input products. Interferometric calibration comprises geometric and phase accuracy aspects. With respect to geometry, orbit and timing parameter have to be calibrated in order to allow accurate geo-coding and optimal processing of the interferometric products. Phase accuracy of the input complex products ...
متن کاملErs-envisat Tandem Cross-interferometry for Monitoring of Sea Ice
The very short temporal separation (about 28 minutes) of the ERS-2 and ENVISAT satellites is very attractive to obtain almost-simultaneous acquisitions, appealing for SAR Interferometric applications both for the very high temporal correlation, for the strong reduction of atmospheric artefacts, and for monitoring fast displacements. The problem of the interferometric combination of such data ar...
